For long-time croquet enthusiasts, golf croquet seems like a relatively new sensation and certainly, the rapid world growth that tracks back roughly to the start of this century creates an aura of a game that is brand new. However, Chris Williams, Archivist for Croquet England, says the birth of the popular croquet version was documented in an issue of the Croquet Gazette that says the rules for Golf Croquet had been approved and were to “be embodied in the Laws of Croquet and Regulations for Official Tournaments and C.A. Year Book for 1934” during a Council meeting held on December 14, 1933.

Read MoreMexico claimed the Tier 3 WCF World Team Tier 3 Golf Croquet Championship title with a 2-0-1 match record at an event held July 20-23, 2022 at the Guildford & Godalming Croquet Club in the UK. Mexico, Portugal and the Czech Republic fielded full teams while the Iran team had three members unable to travel due to late arriving VISAs. However, to keep the four-team format, Iran was allowed to participate with the one remaining member (Omied Hallam) and three players selected from the host Guildford & Goldaming Club.

It was the first WCF tournament held since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic began and was contested by Wales, Switzerland, Latvia, Norway, Scotland, Spain and Canada (although only two players were able to attend) and an eighth Select Team that played friendly matches to help the schedule.
