WCF Golf Croquet WTC: Day Four

By Eric Sawyer | Yesterday was first round of the Plate.  We played and defeated the #4 seed from the other block, Wales.  We won 4-1.  Sherif won his first singles match.  Our boys showed some real character today.
Tomorrow, we play South Africa, my early favorite.  That team features all-time great Reg Bamford.  I have offered to buy whoever plays and beats him in singles tomorrow whatever six-pack they pick.  We should beat SA, as they have not played well in this event.

Morning Coffee: GC December to Remember

Well, really it's a GC November-December to remember, but you get the idea. Somewhere in the background the U.S. Open came off, but most of the action has been centered around the GC World Team Championships which took up a big chunk of the calendar for the past two weeks with two divisions (16 total teams). Egypt took Division 1 and Wales just wrapped up the Division 2 event with a 4-3 win over Belgium. Wales Takes WCF GC WTC D2 Championship

The Second Division of the Inaugural GC World Team Championship concluded in Cairo, Egypt. Wales took the championship 4-3 against Belgium, in a close-fought final to win the WCF Pyramids Trophy. The trophy was donated by the Egyptian Croquet Federation, who successfully hosted the event despite a significant amount of distraction from the political scene.

Morning Coffee: Fargo South Claims Midwest High School Title

Visit the Store The 2011 Midwest High School Croquet Championship was held this past Friday night at the Sports Bubble in Fargo, North Dakota and Fargo South came out as the champion in a tight race. Over 50 students participated in the championship and about 120-150 spectators were on hand to watch the action. The format was nine-wicket cutthroat style with 45 minute time limits. Missouri Croquet Association -- This is actually an old link, but the site has been redesigned and in the spirit of full disclosure, I did the redesign. I wanted to highlight it because I believe this is the model for all club sites. And that is not necessarily from a aesthetic standpoint, but more from the functionality. The news module is featured right on the front page, so if the club is diligent about posting announcements and results (which is super easy by the way) the site always looks active.
