Morning Coffee: Bryant Wins New Zealand Open

The win came after Bryant battled through a 2-0 deficit in the sem-finals against Paddy Chapman. Bryant won that match 3-2 (17-26, 9-26tp, 26-tp-10, 26tp-0, 26-12 otp). Johnny Mitchell took the championship flight of the 43rd Annual Palm Beach Croquet Club Invitational with an 18-16 win over Mike Gibbons. The event was held at the National Croquet Center January 17-22 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Full results available in the forum.

Mike Orgill took the championship flight of the Mission Hills Presidents Cup played January 12-15 at the Mission Hills Club in Rancho Mirage, California. Full results available in the forum.

I've made a tweak to the mention on the WCF and GC rules. Eric Sawyer wrote in and let me know that I had mis-interpreted the WCF post:

BTW, a slight error on the blurb about the WCF GC rules.  The newest publication is simply rulings on some of the rules established in 2007.  This publication is not a change of the rules, just an explanation of how some should be interpreted. 

 

Second, the rule that the winner of the toss must play blue and black was changed in 2007, when the latest version of the rules were established.  The new rulings recently published do not change or even discuss that rule, with the following exception.  One of the first rulings is that the game starts when there is a first attempt to hit a ball or the first ball is hit.  I guess that ruling can be extrapolated to mean that if, for whatever reason, the winner of the toss playing blue and black really wants to play second, that person can take an air swing on blue and not move it and start the game that way.  Then Red would take a shot and be first to hoop #1.  Not sure if that was the intent of the new ruling, but I think that is a fair interpretation.
