Morning Coffee: K.J. Choi Rocks Golf with a Better Putting Stroke

K.J. Choi stirred up the golf scene by introducing a croquet-style swing (video above) this summer. I think we all understand why this will be more effective. I was unaware that golf had made it illegal years ago to straddle the ball during a swing for a true croquet-style putting stroke. Must not look good on TV.

Featured on the Taki's Magazine website, Patrick Foy has a great article that re-visits the history of American croquet. This was tipped by the Croquet World website. Interesting excerpt about the American Rules evolution:

Osborn promoted and adopted the contact rule from the English game, which rule made running a break possible.

I can't help but wonder what the old nine-wicket rule would have been for contact. If anyone has insight on that please answer in the comments.

Again, Bob Alman is on the scene with our first in-depth look at the mysterious and massive croquet association in Denmark. This is a must read and a fascinating topic as the 5,000 players from Denmark make that country the second largest croquet playing nation (based on registered members, Australia has 7,000). The question is clear though -- with the Denmarks playing such a unique brand of croquet, how will this recent discovery benefit the WCF and vice versa?
