USCA Working On GC Eights

The USCA's Golf Croquet Committee is proposing to initiate a brand new GC tournament called the USCA GC Eights. The inaugural event will be hosted by the Sarasota County Croquet Club in Venice, Florida, over the weekend of October 20-23, 2017.

It will consist of a maximum 24 players in three blocks playing on six courts, with the groups of eight built based World Croquet Federation grades. Within the "Eight" all players will play each other in best of three matches and the plan calls for two matches per day on the first three days, then two on the final day. All games will be played under WCF golf croquet rules.

There will be an opening night "Pot Luck" dinner provided by the club on Thursday to welcome the players and hand out court assignments. Play will begin on Friday morning play will begin and continue through Monday. The club will have breakfast snacks each morning and lunch each day for the players and paid guests. At the end of each day there will be an "Attitude Adjustment" with beer and wine provided. The club will take care of setting the wickets each morning prior to play.

The entry fee for this event will be $250 per person with an $80 social fee for non playing guests.

Morning Coffee: WCF Grant to SCA

It was another busy week in the croquet world as the WCF released it's February PDF Newsletter. Highlights include coaching sessions in England in May and a one-day AC course held prior to the AC World Championship in Florida next month. The WCF also approved a grant to the Scottish Croquet Association for support of the Balgreen Club project in Edinburgh, which involves taking over bowling greens to create a new club.

Ramsis Continues as WCF President

Amir Ramsis, the President of the Egyptian Croquet Federation and the current WCF President, was re-elected to serve as President from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2019. Two candidates were nominated.  Amir Ramsis, who was nominated by the Egyptian Croquet Federation, received 38 votes.  Ian Burridge, who was nominated by the Welsh Croquet Association, received 19 votes.

Following the re-election of Ramsis as WCF President, he ceased to be a candidate for an elected position on the WCF Management Committee.  In consequence, there were three candidates for three places on the MC. Accordingly, Luis de Gortazar, Mike Orgill and Samir Patel are deemed to be elected to serve on the MC from  January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2019.

US Player Recruitment - 2015 GC Worlds

The Under-21 Golf Croquet World Championship will be held at the United Croquet Club, Christchurch, New Zealand from February 1-5, 2015

The Golf Croquet World Championship will be held at Mount Maunganui Croquet Club and other clubs in Bay of Plenty, New Zealand from February 7-15, 2015.  A Qualifying Tournament will be held from 3-5 February 3-5, 2015 at Morrinsville Croquet Club, New Zealand.

WCF Timetable for 2015 World GC Championships

The WCF announced Bay of Plenty, New Zealand as host for the 2015 World Golf Croquet Championship to be held February 7-15, 2015.  A qualifying tournament for the 2015 GCWC only will be held from February 3-5, 2015 at Morrinsville Croquet Club. The Under-21 GCWC will be held at the United Croquet Club in Christchurch, New Zealand, February 1-5, 2015.

Wales Takes WCF GC WTC D2 Championship

The Second Division of the Inaugural GC World Team Championship concluded in Cairo, Egypt. Wales took the championship 4-3 against Belgium, in a close-fought final to win the WCF Pyramids Trophy. The trophy was donated by the Egyptian Croquet Federation, who successfully hosted the event despite a significant amount of distraction from the political scene.

The World Croquet Federation launched their new website over the weekend. The best features include a rotating photo slideshow near the top of the hope page and a deeper list of new items alongside. Most importantly, the news items now generate unique URLs that can be direct linked. Now instead of posting full WCF statements, I'll be excerpting and linking.
