The 2024 WCF Golf Croquet World Championship will be hosted in the U.S. for the first time since 2002. The event will be held at the Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club, making its debut as a world-championship venue. Practice and opening ceremony on Thursday 10/17, with competition beginning the next day and finishing on Saturday 10/26.

For long-time croquet enthusiasts, golf croquet seems like a relatively new sensation and certainly, the rapid world growth that tracks back roughly to the start of this century creates an aura of a game that is brand new. However, Chris Williams, Archivist for Croquet England, says the birth of the popular croquet version was documented in an issue of the Croquet Gazette that says the rules for Golf Croquet had been approved and were to “be embodied in the Laws of Croquet and Regulations for Official Tournaments and C.A. Year Book for 1934” during a Council meeting held on December 14, 1933.

From June 29 to July 2, 2023, the Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club hosted the 2023 Rockfish Golf Croquet Tournament. Players from all over the U.S. came for good croquet and great times. During the tournament, on Saturday and Sunday, the club hosted the first annual Blue Crab Arts and Crafts Festival. The festival was held in a park-like grove of pine (in the shade) and the GC tournament was within sight on the courts. The two events blended extremely well.
