The 2017 USCA 9 Wicket Nationals played out in a beautiful setting along the Missouri River at English Landing Park in Parkville, Missouri, in hot for September conditions on extremely challenging turf. It was estimated that 16 players participated in doubles and singles in Championship and First Flight over September 22-24, 2017.

Sunday Challenge for MacRobertson Fans

As we move into Round Three with the US team looking to play spoiler versus Australia, and New Zealand and England hoping to run up the score on each other, it seems like a good day to throw down a little history challenge for our readers. Can you identify the current MacRob player that appeared in the Croquet Network photo gallery for the 2008 USCA National Championship? The player is not captioned, so best of luck:

Please post your answer in the comments to be recognized as a true MacRob diehard fan.

The 2015 Volume 3 issue of the Croquet News mailed in December and should be arriving in mailboxes soon. The web edition is also now available to USCA members on the magazine page. A few of the highlights include:

Danny Huneycutt partnered with Randy Cardo to win the doubles title, and then bested Brian Cumming in an entertaining three-game match for the singles title. It was Cardo’s first national title and a notably quick rise to the top ...

On September 1, 2007, the KCCC became an official USCA club with eight members. Most had been playing six wicket croquet for years and wanted a place to practice and compete locally. With Griffith’s “open night” approach, membership eventually reached 20 full USCA members ...

Morning Coffee: USCA 9W Nationals Scratched

I received an email from local player Ron Millican yesterday indicating he had been informed that the USCA had cancelled the Nine Wicket Croquet National Championship in Washington, D.C. From the USCA, president Johnny Mitchell provided the following statement:

"The (we assume) Park Service cancelled all activities on the Mall and Park areas because of wet ground. Participants that are there and prepared to play are trying to plan an alternative event. They have received my approval to make it a sanctioned event. I don't know at this point if this will be considered a National or if we will reschedule. I am awaiting further updates on the situation. It appears that reports have the hurricane moving more toward the east and not arriving in the area until Monday. It may not be an issue at all."

USCA Visits the Capitol

The United States Croquet Association has designated October 4, 2015 as "9 Wicket Croquet Day." In celebration, the USCA is hosting the National 9 Wicket Championship October 2-4, 2015, on the National Mall at West Potomac Park, Washington, D.C. The view from the courts should be spectacular with the Lincoln, Washington and Jefferson Monuments all in view. Registration will be at Ohio Drive SW and West Basin Dr. SW.

There will be Championship flights in singles and doubles play for the National Championship title. Three time singles and doubles champion George Cochran will be returning with his winning soubles partner John Warlick. Another past Singles winner, Stephen Morgan of Capital Croquet Club will also be vying for the title.
