Country Boys AC croquet tournament on the lawns of Danny Huneycutt and Steve Summer near Winston Salem, North Carolina. Block play game between Brian Cumming and Robert Hurst on Danny's lawn. There's a lot of back and forth, some the result of the substantial "character" of the lawn and some not.
Entries in Robert Hurst (10)
Video by Russell Dilley on Day One block play from the 2016 AC Worlds at the National Croquet Center in Wets Palm Beach, Florida. This double banked session features Jenny Clarke (NZ) vs Robert Hurst (USA) in Game One and Matthew Essick (USA) vs Andre Savinovs (Latvia) in Game Two.
Doubles was again the main order of business for the day. In the one remaining match from the round of 16, Death and Patel (England) advanced over Essick and Hurst (USA), Patel tripling in game 1 and finishing off the contact after an Essick TPO in game 2.
Day One of the British Opens at the Cheltenham Croquet Club was a short day with a single round of the main doubles knockout. Most of the top-ranked teams had fairly easy matches, but a couple of matches were especially competitive. Jeff Dawson (England) and David Walters (Wales) bested Ben Rothman (USA) and Gavin Carter (Jersey) with two triples by Dawson.

USCA PRESIDENT'S ROUNDTABLE
In this feature, I held an email roundtable discussion with current USCA President Johnny Mitchell and recent presidents Eugene Young and Rich Curtis. The discussion touched on a range of topics around current USCA challenges and the future vision. Excerpt:
"Promoting the sport is an entirely different issue. I know that all those who are involved in croquet truly have a passion for it and have a hard time understanding why more don’t play. Yes, we have seen pockets of expansion. North Carolina is a good example of this, but I feel it is not as easy as just trying to follow that model. Each area of the country is unique. What works in one may not be effective in another. Development is dependent on having local support. No matter where or who you may sell the idea of croquet to, unless some local support or the drive to keep it going is there, it just won’t work."
