The first day of Block play was perfect croquet weather – cool air and warm sun. Each player played three games.
The opening party was held at the 55th Hole bar at the Country Club. Twenty players and nine guest attended the gala. Tournament Director Rory Kelley, demurred, and Assistant Tournament Director Doug Grimsley presided.

The U.S.Open, the longest running association rules tournament in the United States, celebrates it's 29th continuous year this December. The tournament will run Tuesday, Dec. 6 through Saturday Dec. 10 at the Mission Hills Club in Palm Springs, CA. The TD will be Rory Kelley assisted by Doug Grimsley. There will be two flights with three games guaranteed each day through Friday leading to a BO3 Championship final and court side luncheon on Saturday. RANCHO MIRAGE, CA -- The USCA National Association Rules Championship has narrowed down to Stuart Lawrence, Doug Grimsley, Brian Cumming and David Maloof. The quarterfinal action had Stuart Lawrence over Mike Todorovich 26tp-0, 26-18. Doug Grimsley took out Jim Hanks 26-0, 26tp-10. Brian Cumming worked past Paul Bennett 26tp-9, 0-26tp, 26-23, while David Maloof beat Sherif Abdelwahab 26tp-0, 26-18.
The USCA Association Rules National Championships is underway at Mission Hills Croquet Club in Rancho Mirage, California. The event started yesterday and runs through Saturday, March 5, 2016. As we roll in the New Year, let's take a look back at 2014 with the most popular lists for Croquet Network. All four of the lists below, rank the most viewed pages on both the Croquet Network news site and the community/forum site. It is no surprise the 2014 Mallet Poll topped the list for 2014 posts. That poll officially closed on December 31 and I will be going to work on a follow-up post with links and info for all of the top finishers.
Jeff Soo certainly has his name all over the USCA Champion's page. In fact, he currently holds five National American Rules titles in both singles (2013, 2008, 2005, 2002, 2000) and doubles (2013, 2008, 2002, 2001, 1999). When the balls roll out for the 2014 USCA American Rules Croquet National Championships to be held October 5-11 at the National Croquet Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, Soo will be on the cusp of an unprecedented achievement in US croquet.
