Morning Coffee: US Player Poll Results

Congratulations to Sherif Abdelwahab and Ben Rothman for each receiving nine votes to win the 2015 US Croquet Player of the Year Poll. Croquet Network has had pretty good success with online polls and while we had more votes for this year's poll versus the 2014 poll, it was clear that the poll carried the wrong title. Our result would better be characterized as the "Most Popular Player Poll."

Selection Eights Day One Update

WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- The Eights kicked off relatively on schedule this morning, with only a slight delay to knock out the group photo. From the First Eight, it was noted that Ben Rothman didn't seem to be in top form, but no one was able to take advantage as he went 4-0 to start the event. David Maloof started the event hot, but did fall to Rothman 26tp-23 and he currently has second place in the First Eight with a 3-1 record.

In the evening, members of the Third Eight jumped over to the lighted courts and played well into the darkness to avoid pegged down games.

Updated on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 06:47AM by Registered CommenterDylan

With Jeff Soo and Ben Rothman battling to a tie with three US national titles each in 2014, we thought we would start the year off by letting the readers vote in the first annual Croquet Network US Player of the Year Poll to get the people's choice. We're also including any player that gained a USCA national title in 2014 along with some of the top finishers in the 2014 USCA Grand Prix, so you have plenty of options to vote for the best performance:

Morning Coffee: Soo Claims 2014 Grand Prix

TIGHT GP RACE FOR 2014: With 2014 in the books, that brings another USCA Grand Prix to a close. The standings show that Jeff Soo edged out Ben Rothman with 22,225 points to Rothman's 19,515. Based on Rothman's three national titles (USCA Singles, GC Singles and GC Doubles) versus Soo's two titles (AC Singles and USCA Doubles), it could again spell controversy for the USCA which uses the Grand Prix to select the USCA Player of the Year.
